Joining OCSS

The standard process for joining society is invitation after completion of a sailor's first degree at Oxford or Cambridge. (Those continuing to a PhD may join the society. Medics are generally invited after the completion of their six year course.)

The Captains should liase with OCSS committee representatives for names, emails and a very brief summary of the sailor's sailing and racing achievements. The secretary will then be in touch about paying a small one off joining fee (unchanged for many years at 30 guineas).

Retrospective Membership Eligibility

We recognise that, in earlier years, some sailors who would today be eligible were unable to join due to the rules and circumstances of the time. As a Society, we are keen to redress this and warmly invite those who may have been overlooked to become part of OCSS today. Please contact the Secretary in the first instance.

Current Membership Rules

Election of all candidates for membership shall be by the committee. Membership shall be confined to present or past members or supporters of the Oxford University Yacht Club and Cambridge University Cruising Club.

Current Broad Guidelines

The committee feels that sailing talent, across helming and crewing, and consistent commitment to the sport should be the main criteria for election. In addition it is felt that individuals who have made a major contribution to the sport (either at University or since then) would make worthwhile members of the Society.
