Roger Palmer 1942-2024 – February 2024

We regret to announce the passing of OCSS member, Roger, on Friday, 26 January. Roger passed away peacefully at the hospital, with his daughter Helen and wife Barbara by his side, after a year-long decline in health and a recent battle with a chest infection.

Roger continued to engage with the sport he loved up until three years ago, sailing his Flying Fifteen. He took joy in watching his 10 year old grandson sail his RS Tera last summer, a testament to his enduring passion for the water.

Roger lived to nearly 82, embracing a life filled with adventure and friendship. A private family funeral will take place on Friday, 1 March, with a celebration of Roger’s life to follow at 2pm at HISC, welcoming all his friends from the sailing, hockey, and broader community.

  1. Greatly sad about Roger, Ken and Richard, all of whom were great supporters of the Society. Richard Thompson’s contribution to team racing and the RRS was immense, and there are generations of OCSS members who have been umpired and tutored by him.
